About Us
Joanne Patterson DNP, PMHNP-BC
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
The Culinary Therapy NP®️
Mission
The mission and purpose of Dr. Joanne Psychiatry NP is to improve access to care, provide community and culturally appropriate integrative psychiatric treatment to women and children.
Professional Statement
Dr. Patterson is a Syracuse, Emory, and Brandman University educated, nationally board certified family psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and certified integrative mental health provider. She has completed additional women's reproductive mental health and culinary medicine continuing education from Massachusetts General Hospital Psychiatry Academy, Postpartum Support International and 2020 Mom.
To further her clinical skillset, she is currently completing a culinary medicine specialist certification designation, where she will have a unique foundation for incorporating healthy eating into patients’ diets: comprehensive knowledge of nutrition, and the culinary techniques to prepare food that is consistent with real-world budgets, time constraints, and nutritional ideals. Born and raised in the United States Virgin Islands, Dr. Joanne is familiar with food as medicine.
Specialties & Expertise
While educated and board certified to treat children, adolescents, and adults experiencing mental illness, Dr. Patterson's interests include culinary medicine, pregnant/postpartum mental health, child & adolescent psychiatry, parent-child mental health and the mental health of gifted/twice exceptional individuals. As a clinician, she believes that the most important aspect of care is listening to the client's unique story. Although medication management is a large part of her role, medicine is only prescribed when absolutely necessary. There are several trusted therapists in the community that we can refer you to for therapy.
Women's Mood & Reproductive Psychiatry Treatment
Using a published model of therapeutic care, Dr. Patterson assesses the client's genetics, reproductive hormonal events, as well as life events/stressors and the client's responses to them. From there a comprehensive, customized treatment plan is designed in collaboration with the client to begin the healing stage. Telepsychiatry is ideal for patients on bedrest and/or in situations where childcare is not possible. Babies are always welcomed during the telepsychiatry appointment.
With over 20 years of nursing experience, which includes perinatal and newborn nursing, you and your children are in safe hands. Dr. Patterson's ability to connect with families makes a significant difference during this delicate period.
